How we helped Essex County Council drive social worker vacancies to an all-time low

Due to a national skills shortage of frontline social work professionals our client, Essex County Council, had become heavily reliant on social work agency staff. We were tasked with providing a cost-effective solution that would transform their workforce and improve attrition levels.

We created the ‘Serious about Social Work’ campaign to help our client secure their foothold in the social care market. Together, we established what’s important to our target audience and used our knowledge to structure our campaign. By advertising offline and online, and creating a dedicated microsite, we gave candidates a taste of what they could expect from a career in social care. We also launched the first ever one-day social care CPD event to engage qualified social workers from other local authorities.

Our campaign was a resounding success, providing our client with the momentum they needed to drive social worker vacancies to an all-time low.

  • Reduced hard-to-fill vacancies by 75%
  • Successfully filled 98% of a 137 permanent roles using direct fill
  • Achieved a time-to-hire period of 20 days
  • Reduced reliance on agency staff from 40% to 15%
